Smirnov Alexander
Smirnov Alexander

Head of Department

Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences

The department includes

  • sector of geology of solid minerals of the shelf;
  • sector of geological and economic research.

Activities

  • root and placer deposits of highly liquid minerals: gold, platinum and metals of the platinum group;
  • diamonds, rare, rare-earth and non-ferrous metals;
  • mineralogical mapping of the Arctic territories and the continental shelf;
  • study of magmatic formations and associated deposits of minerals;
  • research of geology of the Arctic and forecasting of deposits of highly liquid minerals: diamonds, platinum, gold.

Key objectives

  • evaluation of deposits o rare-earth elements in the Arctic;
  • assessment of prospects for diamond bearing and platinum bearing in the Arctic;
  • creation of computer cadasters of deposits of the north of Russia;
  • Cenozoic oreogenesis of the shelf regions and continental margins of the Russian Federation and the World;
  • mineralogical zoning of the shelf regions and continental margins of Russia and the World;
  • development, methods and assessment of the forecast resources of alluvial minerals / gold, tin, diamonds, platinoids / for the Arctic and Far Eastern shelves of the Russian Federation;
  • development of methodological recommendations on regional geological and geophysical works and searches for placers of tin, gold and diamonds on the shelf of the Arctic and Far Eastern seas of Russia;
  • study of processes of placer formation in the shelf regions (including the Cenozoic paleoshelf), conditions for the formation and localization of placers of various geological-genetic types; modeling of industrial deposits of placer minerals of petrogenic and biogenic origin (amber, fossil mammoth bone);
  • metallogeny and petrography of Eastern Siberia, the Central Arctic and the islands of the Arctic shelf;
  • the development of models of magmatism on the Arctic shelf.

The department can provide the following services

  1. Development, methods and assessment of the forecast resources of alluvial minerals / gold, tin, diamonds, platinoids / for the Arctic and Far Eastern shelves of the Russian Federation;
  2. Development of methodological recommendations on regional geological and geophysical works and searches for placers of tin, gold and diamonds on the shelf of the Arctic and Far Eastern seas of Russia;
  3. Study of processes of placer formation in the shelf regions (including the Cenozoic paleoshelf), conditions for the formation and localization of placers of various geological-genetic types;
  4. Modeling of industrial deposits of placer minerals of petrogenic and biogenic origin (amber, fossil mammoth bone);
  5. Mineralogical zoning of the shelf regions and continental margins of Russia and the World.
